Eagles top Hampton in four

BALTIMORE-Senior outside hitter and Hampton’s all-time leader in kills, Chavanca Hoskins (Dallas, Texas/ Lincoln HS) tallied a match-high 19 kills but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Eagles defeated HU 30-19, 19-30, 29-31, 24-30 on Friday night.
The Eagles are now 6-18 overall and have won their last three matches at home, overall, and the against the Lady Pirates who fall to 7-14.
Hoskins led Hampton with a match-high 19 kills and registered 14 digs for her the double-double. Alyssa Jackson (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Snider HS) led the team in digs with 17, while Ebonie Vincent (Temecula, Calif. / UC-Riverside) led the team with five blocks.
Both teams hit .118 from the floor in the match as the Lady Pirates out blocked the Eagles 8-7. However Coppin State out dug Hampton, 70-43.
Hampton never trailed after 2-2 and held two 11-point leads in the first game. In the second game, the Eagles never trailed and held two 13-point leads.
In game three, HU used a 14-5 run to take a 20-10 lead. CSU fought back to come within five, but another Pirate run set the Eagles back 27-20. A thrilling 11-1 run led by Indira Larencin, who had six kills including the game-winner, gave Coppin State at 2-1 lead in the match.
The fourth game remained close until a 20-19 when Coppin State went on a 10-5 run, as Shaina Pryror tipped the Eagles’ match –winner.
